To pine on the stem Since the lovely are sleeping, Go sleep thou with them Thus kindly I scatter Thy leaves o'er the bed Where thy mates of the garden Lie scentless and dead 　 고독한 장미야, 그대 홀로 남아 가지 위에서 한숨짓지 않게 하리라 아름다운 꽃들 잠자고 있으니 가서 그들과 함께 잠들어라 그래... 너의 꽃잎을 친구들 위에 고이 뿌려 주리라 향기 없이 누워 잠들어 있는 정원의 침상 위에 　 So soon may I follow when friendship decay And from life's shining circle the gems drop away When true hearts lie wither'd and fond ones are flown Oh, who would inhabit this bleak world alone 　 머잖아 나 또한 가리니 우정이 끝나고 화려한 사랑의 반지에 보석들 떨어져 나가고 진정한 사랑 죽어 묻히고 좋은 것 모두 사라져 버리면 아 이 쓸쓸한 세상에 누가 혼자 남아 살 것인가? 　       　 이 곡은 세계적으로 알려진 아일랜드 민요입니다. 우리는 <한 떨기 장미꽃>으로 익혀 왔는데 본래 곡명은 [여름 날의 마지막 장미]입니다. 　 아일랜드의 Sir. Thomas Moore (1779 ~1852)가 1805년 시(詩)를 쓰고 그 후 아일랜드의 Sir. John Stevenson (1761 - 1833)가 작곡한 곡으로 [Flotow] 의 오페라 [Martha] 2막에도 나오는 곡입니다.
